WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN BUYING A POOL IN MARYLAND - 2025 edition
Updated January 2025
Interest and growth in new backyard pools remain steady heading into 2025, and the industry has largely caught up with demand. A notable observation is that buyers are increasingly interested in integrating their pools with other outdoor living amenities, such as outdoor kitchens, outdoor living rooms, fire pits, and landscaping, rather than focusing solely on the pool. However, one thing that has not changed are common questions like, "How long will this take?" and "When will I be able to swim?" So, if you're considering diving into the journey of pool ownership in 2025, get ready!
First and foremost, if you're interested in a new inground pool, start the process now! Designing and building a new swimming pool is a significant project that requires time and effort. We advise our clients to expect a wait time of three to four months after all design decisions have been made and the contract is signed. This is a substantial improvement and falls within a more typical timeframe for pool installations. While it is possible for the process to be completed sooner, we prefer to under-promise and over-deliver. However, please note that this timeframe also depends on the scale and scope of each individual project.
Here are some key insights for consideration and what you can expect throughout the process.
1 / INQUIRIES
As mentioned earlier, interest in our services has increased. We are receiving inquiries through phone calls, emails, and our website, and we appreciate your enthusiasm. Please note that designing and building a pool requires thoughtful discussions, which takes time.
If you haven't already, be sure to check out our article, "How Much Does It Cost to Build a Pool?" for more insights. We have established processes to ensure that every inquiry receives a response. You can expect to hear back from us within two business days, as we make it a priority to address each request diligently.
Now is an excellent time to practice patience, as you will need it throughout the entire process of building your new pool. Take a deep breath!
2 / THE PERMITTING PROCESS
Once the design and contract are approved and signed, we will begin the permitting process. What used to be a relatively straightforward walk-through process that typically resulted in a permit within 1 to 2 days has now transitioned to a virtual permitting process. As a result,
what once took days may now take months.
It's important to note that the permitting timeline can vary significantly by county in Maryland; some areas may experience longer delays than others.
3 / FINANCING
Financing is a big one. How are you going to pay for your pool? Financing can take some time to figure out, so it's a good idea to secure your funding or at least know how you will finance your pool ahead of time.
There’s nothing more disappointing than being excited about designing and building a pool, only to have your financing fall through.
Our pool packages start at $100,000. But last year, 2024, the average inground pool cost was $150,000. To help you better understand the costs involved, check out our article, "How Much Does It Cost To Build A Pool?" Additionally, you can explore various financing options by reading our article, "The Top 5 Ways to Finance Your Swimming Pool."
4 / MAKING PROMPT DECISIONS
We prioritize inquiries based on the order in which they are received, but
please note that your build date is determined by the signing of the final contract agreement.
Many people mistakenly believe that since the entire pool process takes time, they can afford to delay their decisions. This is not the case! We will only order materials or begin the permitting process once you have signed the final agreement. Therefore, the speed at which you make decisions can significantly affect how soon you’ll be able to swim. While additional details can still be added or adjusted after signing, having the agreement in place allows us to initiate the permitting process.
In conclusion, many of us have developed a greater appreciation for being at home and strive to create a comfortable, peaceful, and enjoyable environment. If you're considering adding a swimming pool to your backyard, you'll definitely enjoy it even more.
